Our Mission

Dawson County Parks & Recreation's primary mission is to create a fun, safe, and nurturing environment for which people of all ages can grow, benefit, and enjoy the quality of life through diverse recreational and leisure opportunities.

Parks & Recreation Overview

The Parks & Recreation Division offers a variety of facilities for those who like to take advantage of the passive recreational activities. Amongst our locations, you will find indoor facilities, used for birthday parties and reunions, as well as, playgrounds and a swimming pool.

The overall growth of Dawson County can be seen in the growing numbers of participants in each of the athletic programs offered. From youth soccer to adult co-ed softball, the list of athletic programs offered grows each year.

The opening of the Rec. Center in 2005 has resulted in the implementation of many new programs, such as Cardio Kickboxing for adults and Baton & Dance classes for children.

Online registration is now available for most all of the Athletic programs and many of the classes offered by the Parks & Recreation Department. The growth in the department is leading us into the direction of many online services involving schedules, registration, and team standings.

Beginning in 2008, the Parks & Recreation Department developed an information guide, which serves as a directory of the many activities, programs, and services offered by the Parks & Recreation Department. The information is split into two separate activity guides: Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall. The Winter/Spring Guide becomes available for distribution in January and will contain information for activities and events scheduled for January-May. The Summer/Fall Guide becomes available for distribution in May and will contain information for activities and events scheduled for June-December.  Beginning in 2012, the activity guide will be available online as Online Flip-Book.  The flip-book will have the capability of being edited with updated information periodically throughout the year to provide you with the most recent information.  Copies are also available at Veterans Memorial Park and Rock Creek while supplies last.
