Facilities and Parks

Dawson County Parks & Recreation manages four parks: Veterans Memorial Park, Rock Creek Sports Complex, War Hill Park, and River Park. The main office for all parks is located at the Rock Creek Rec. Center.

Effective October 2009, all buildings will be closed on Sundays and all outdoor facility use is first-come, first-serve. For more information on renting a facility, please see the Facility Rentals information below.

Dawson County Park was renamed “Veterans Memorial Park” in Spring 2007. Veterans is located on Hwy 9 North and is home to the football field, swimming pool, and the new walking trail. Veterans also consists of baseball/softball/t-ball fields, tennis courts, gymnasium, and outdoor covered pavilions (see Park Comparison chart below).

Directions:
From downtown Dawsonville, follow Hwy 9 North for about 2 miles. Veterans is located on Recreation Road on your left.

From GA 400, follow Hwy 53 West into downtown Dawsonville until it intersects with Hwy 9 North -- Turn right on Hwy 9 -- Veterans is located about a 1.5 miles on the left on Recreation Rd.

Rock Creek Sports Complex

Rock Creek Sports Complex is located on Hwy 9 South and is home of the soccer fields and main administrative offices. Rock Creek also consists of baseball/softball/t-ball fields, tennis courts, gymnasiums, indoor meeting rooms, and outdoor covered pavilions (see Park Comparison chart below).

Directions:
From downtown Dawsonville, take Hwy 9 South toward Cumming -- Follow Hwy 9 for about 4 miles -- RC is located where Bannister Road and Martin Road intersect -- Turn right onto either road (Martin Road will be the first entrance; Bannister Road will be the second entrance).

From GA 400, follow Dawson Forest Road (turn right if you are coming south on 400; turn left if you are coming north on 400) -- Follow Dawson Forest Road until it intersects with Hwy 9 North -- Turn right and follow Hwy 9 for about 1.5 miles -- Turn left onto either Bannister Road or Martin Road.

War Hill Park

War Hill Park is located on War Hill Park Road, off of Hwy 53 East.

Effective June 17, 2011 Dawson County Parks & Recreation will no longer accept checks for Day-Use and Campsite fees. Only cash will be accepted.

War Hill Park consists of:

14 Primitive Campsites - Each campsite has it's own fire pit, charcoal grill, and lantern hook
Day-use areas - Picnic tables, swings, benches
Boat launches - Four on-site (availability based on lake water levels)
Bath house - Includes restrooms and showers

Campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis and are not available for call ahead reservations. In order to reserve a campsite, please complete the required information at the host campsite at War Hill Park, insert your payment of $16 per campsite per night (cash only) in the yellow envelope provided at the honor box, drop your envelope into the honor box, and occupy your campsite.

Day Use Areas are available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis and are not available for rent. In order to use the day use areas, please complete the required information at the host campsite at War Hill Park, insert your payment of $3 per day (cash only) in the white envelope provided at the honor box, and drop the envelope into the honor box.

Season passes for the Day Use area are available for purchase at the main office at Rock Creek Sports Complex. Passes are sold individually at the rate of $30 per season (expires December 31).

Boat Ramps are available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis and are not available for rent. In order to use the day use areas, please complete the required information at the host campsite at War Hill Park, insert your payment of $3 per day (cash only) in the white envelope provided at the honor box, and drop the envelope into the honor box.

Annual passes for Boat Ramp use are available for purchase at the main office at Rock Creek Sports Complex. Passes are sold invidually at the rate of $30 per calendar year.

Directions:
From GA 400, follow Dawson Forest Road (turn left if you are coming south on 400; turn right if you are coming north on 400) -- Follow Dawson Forest Road until it intersects with Hwy 53 East -- Turn right and follow Hwy 53 until you reach the traffic light of War Hill Park Road (on the left) and Blue Ridge Overlook (on the right) -- Turn left onto War Hill Park road and follow it until you reach War Hill Park -- Host campsite is on the right once you enter the park.

River Park

River Park is located on Hwy 9 South, between Bannister Road and Riverview Middle School.

Entry into the Etowah River at the River Park Canoe Launch is free; however, a $3 fee is required at the Kelly Bridge take-out.

Facility rentals are not confirmed until completed Facility Use Form and payment in full are submitted to administration during regular office hours (Mon-Fri 9:00AM-5:00PM). Park staff will set up tables and chairs prior to your reserved time only if requested lay-out is sumitted to administration at least 1 week prior to event date.
