Important Safety Information!!!  Safe Kids Worldwide has teamed up with Johnson & Johnson to release new info about how to keep kids safe and in the game. Here's the big news:  Each year, 1.35 million children are seen in emergency rooms for sports-related injuries. That's one child every 25 seconds. Their new research report looks at injuries in 14 popular youth sports and focuses on issues like concussions and knee injuries and how to prevent them. Female athletes are eight times more likely to have ACL (knee) injuries than male athletes.

Help Get the Message Out!!  Below are a few links with helpful information.

The Georgia Legislature has approved House Bill 48, which shall be known as the "Georgia Return to Play Act of 2013". Effective January 1, 2014, all schools and organizations that offer youth athletic programs will be required to educate youth athletes and their parents to understand the dangers of concussions in sports competitions and to better recognize when an athlete may have sustained a concussion. Parents must agree to an acknowledgment of receipt of the Georgia Return to Pla Act of 2013:  "Heads Up - Concussions in Youth Sports" information in order for the child to participate in the activity. The Parent Athlete Info Sheet will be available during all youth sports registrations, as well as online at all times. Please visit the CDC website for additional information and helpful tools on prevention and preparation.  Two things to keep in mind in regards to concussions are:  "When in doubt, sit it out." and "It’s better to miss one game than the whole season."

Out of County Travel  Occasional out-of-county travel is sometimes necessary for Dawson County Parks & Recreation youth sports activities.  Siblings playing on different teams, in different age groups, or in different sports may be subject to travel to different locations/counties at the same or overlapping times.  Households with multiple children participating in Dawson County Parks & Recreation youth sports may be subject to playing at different locations on the same day and at the same time.  Admission fees are sometimes required for some activities (i.e. football games, all-star tournament games, etc).  By completing the registration process, you agree that you have read and understand these potential scenarios.
