The north and south portions of Lumpkin Campground Road will be closed until November 3 (weather permitting). This extended closure is due to weather and conflicts with existing utility lines. Please click the map to the left to enlarge for more details.

July 30, 2021
The first phase of construction involves a portion of Lumpkin Campground Road to be closed for removal and installation of a CONTECH arch culvert system.  This closure will occur between August 10 - October 6, 2021 (weather permitting).  All utility relocation has been completed and construction may start for the proposed roundabout.  A traffic detour plan was submitted by Vertical Earth for review and approval.  The detour plan was reviewed by Dawson County Public Works, Forsyth County as well as GDOT.  Once comments, recommendations and revisions were approved, message boards were installed in the locations of the approved detour plan to allow citizens two weeks notice.  Vertical Earth will provide additional detour signs will be added prior to the closing.

Lumpkin Campground Road will have a HARD CLOSURE at the intersection of Harry Sosebee Road & Lee Castleberry Road starting Tuesday, August 10 – Wednesday, October 6, 2021 as crews work to replace and install a stream crossing pipe for the construction of a new roundabout. 

Lumpkin Campground Road will be for local traffic only starting at the intersection of Red Rider Road & Whitmire Drive down to the intersection of Harry Sosebee Road & Lee Castleberry Road.  Local traffic WILL NOT be able to continue on Lumpkin Campground Road at Harry Sosebee Road & Lee Castleberry Road.  Local traffic will still be able to turn right or left onto Harry Sosebee Road or Lee Castleberry Road.

Local traffic only on Lumpkin Campground Road starting at the intersection of Jot Em Down Road & Silver City Road in Forsyth County to Harry Sosebee Road & Lee Castleberry Road.

Detours to GA-400 will be in place via Whitmire Drive, Lee Castleberry Road or Jot Em Down Road.
